Intel’s Pineview Will Be Compatible With ION

Today we have an update to yesterdays announcement of Pine Trail by Intel. Pine Trail is Intel’s next-gen chipset made to accompany the next iteration of Atom processors dubbed Pineview. Intel has clarified that although the Pineview chip already contains its own integrated graphics, it will still be compatible with NVIDIA’s ION chipset and GPU. A bold strategy from Intel in the face of criticism for unfair pricing issues regarding Atom processors. Intel has now taken it to the next level essentially making it impossible to sell the processor seperate of the chipset. The new Pineview processors are expected to be released by Q4 2009. So far it looks like its going to be a bumpy ride for NVIDIA along the Pine Trail.
