Pegatron Ultra Slim Atom Is Running SiS Chipset And Not ION?
SiS is claiming that Pegatron’s Ultra Slim Atom is running on the SiS672 chipset as opposed to NVIDIA’s ION platform. It is possible that the Cape 7 and the nettop pictured above are two separate models with different guts. SiS does mention the Cape 7 anywhere in its press release linked below. It is highley likely that Pegatron is just exploring different nettop platforms. One major difference between the two is that the Cape 7 sported an HDMI port where as this “Ultra Slim” shows only a DVI connector. We will just have to wait to see exactly what the deal is with these nettops.
The SiS672/968/307DV chipset is a low powered fanless design perfect for nettops. What makes it even more threatening is its Mrage 3 graphics chip that is boasted to be an excellent 2D and 3D graphics performer. This graphics chip is also said to be capable of HD playback. This new device has a total of 6 USB ports, 2 SATA ports, 1 Gigabit ethernet port, and 1 PCI-E 1x slot. This device only has the option of a single-core Atom N230 with no option for a dual-core chip mentioned. The Pegatron Ultra Slim also maxes out at 2GB of DDR2-667 RAM. Read on at the SiS press release.
