ION Based is a website where you can come to read about the latest news regarding NVIDIA’s ION platform. Here is a description of ION from Wikipedia:

NVIDIA ION is a system/motherboard platform that includes NVIDIA’s GeForce 9400M (MCP79) GPU and Intel’s Atom on a Pico-ITXe motherboard designed for netbook and nettop devices. In February 2009, Microsoft certified the upcoming ION-based PCs as Vista-capable. The small form factor ION-based PCs are expected to be released in the summer of 2009, starting at $299.99. ION systems will be DirectX 10 capable and full 1080p HD video with true-fidelity 7.1 audio. ION systems can also use NVIDIA® CUDA™ technology.

When I first heard about NVIDIA’s ION platform I was looking for places that I could learn more about it. There was a blog here or there that would have a post about an ION product. Also scattered across the Internet were a few forum topics regarding the platform, but what I really wanted to see is a central site I could go to learn about all things regarding ION. After some searching turned up nothing I decided to make ION Based.

On April 28th, 2009 ION Based was born. It uses WordPress as its blogging system and bbPress for the forum side. Both of these systems integrate nicely and are very customizable. On May 13th, 2009 ION Based was featured on the front page of Engadget which drastically increased visitors to the site and really boosted the sites visibility and popularity. I still have many plans for ION Based which should really make it the premier knowledge base for anything about the ION platform. Thanks for visiting and I hope to see you on the forums!
