Good news, everyone! ION 2 has been officially announced for a 2009 release. ION 2 will still have support for Intel Atom and VIA Nano processors as well as other similar processors. Newer mobile processors with DMI chipsets like the Arrandale Core i5 will not be supported by ION 2. No exact release date yet, [...]

As of right now all ION chips are manufactured with a 55nm process, but that should change by the end of 2009. A smaller manufacturing process means that the chip can be made smaller and also produce less heat than older larger chips. We can also expect to see a slight performance increase as well [...]
